Hydrant Access
Accessing fire hydrants in TVWD's service area requires prior authorization. Unauthorized access will result in civil penalties and fines.
Below are the three most common types of hydrants found in TVWD's service area.
Green Cap Hydrants (filling permitted with prior authorization): TVWD has over 30 green cap hydrants available for permitted users to access for bulk water tank filling. A map will be provided to approved permit holders.
Standard Yellow Hydrants (filling not permitted): Bulk water filling from yellow hydrants without green caps is prohibited. TVWD may install its hydrant backflow meters on a standard yellow fire hydrant if the District deems it necessary
Red Fire Hydrants (filling not permitted): Red hydrants are privately owned and only used for firefighting purposes. These hydrants are typically connected to a fire line service providing water to a private fire system. Any fluctuation in system pressure may result in the activation of the fire suppression system and alert the fire department.
